Ready to pick up the tent pegs and find a new neighborhood?

First thing’s first: Make a list of all the things you want in a community. Looking for great schools, an incredible culinary scene and lots of places to relax on the weekend? Miles of outdoor trails and activities for the kids that won’t break the bank? How about workplaces that foster innovation and attract amazing talent?

Sounds like Lake Nona.

While there are plenty of places that are perfect for couples, families and empty-nesters alike, Lake Nona is a smart and connected community where residents benefit from a vibrant culture, robust programming and spaces to explore and collaborate with neighbors. Here are a few things you should know before buying a home in Central Florida’s fastest-growing community.

A+ Schools for All Ages

From toddlers to teenagers, Lake Nona’s schools are models of excellence in education. For the littlest ones, five awesome options include the Primrose School of Lake Nona, an accredited full- and part-time education organization; the Learning Experience at Lake Nona, a childcare option that encourages social and academic development; Amazing Explorers, which focuses on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) curricula, the Goddard School of Lake Nona; and the Lake Nona YMCA, with early-learning programs to prepare kiddos for a lifetime of learning.

Parts of Lake Nona are included in the Orange County Public Schools system, and the four OCPS schools in the area are A-rated by the state of Florida, including Lake Nona High School, Laureate Park Elementary, Lake Nona Middle School and NorthLake Park Elementary School.

Restaurants that Wow

Lake Nona’s burgeoning culinary scene is one that will keep you coming back to neighborhood restaurants over and over again. Canvas Restaurant & Market is well-known in Orlando for its incredible brunch and romantic views. Nona Blue Modern Tavern serves classic American fare in a cool, crisp space perfect for happy hour with friends. Chroma Modern Bar + Kitchen, located in the heart of Lake Nona Town Center, offers small plates for sharing and an incredible craft cocktail program.

If the family is feeling indecisive, Boxi Park, Central Florida’s first culinary and entertainment venue made entirely out of repurposed shipping containers, literally has something for everyone, with a dozen options for food and beverage, plus live music and space for the littlest and the furriest family members to run and play.

Space to Innovate

One of Lake Nona’s core tenets is collaborative innovation, and the workspaces and companies that call Lake Nona home are second to none when it comes to pushing the boundaries. Lake Nona is inspiring, with partnerships spanning many of the world’s most influential and exciting companies.

If you’re thinking about relocating to Lake Nona, you might also consider taking a look at some of the area’s millions of square feet of commercial space, primed for restaurants, medical and biotech offices, and retail. Many of the commercial office spaces feature inspiring upgrades like WELL certification, high-tech IT infrastructure and more.

Lake Nona is also a hub for some of the most interesting public-private partnerships when it comes to the wellbeing and productivity of its residents and visitors. An example of this is the BEEP autonomous vehicles that shuttle people to some of Lake Nona’s most-visited locations as part of the collaborative “Move Nona” initiative.

The Great Outdoors

From walking or running, hiking, tennis, swimming and soccer, Lake Nona has the perfect spot to improve your performance and your game without getting on the highway.

The U.S. Tennis Association National Campus is one of Lake Nona’s main landmarks, and you’ll find 100 tennis courts there. Twenty-six of them even feature SmartCourt technology so players can review their play after each match.  The beach volleyball courts at Boxi Park is where the Phil Dalhausser Beach Volleyball Academy practices, and youth training, adult leagues and plenty of pick-up games are on the sand.

Runners, bikers and walkers will love the 40-plus miles of trails throughout Lake Nona. The trails connect to several community playgrounds and parks with green spaces to relax after your effort.
